AMSPEED TRIO TAKE ALL STEPS OF THE PODIUM

CSCC Modern Classics – Silverstone National 11/05/15

Once again the Modern Classics hosted a bumper grid of 90s machinery with over ten marques represented and with close racing throughout the grid. The Modern Classics has well and truly established itself.

After a long wait for the final race of the day, the 32 car grid assembled. The lights went out and the pole car of Mark Smith bogged down and dropped back to 6th leaving the BMWs of Szymanski, Daniel Gannon & David Marcussen to battle it out up front.

Close but fair racing ensued throughout the grid, whilst Szymanski led out front, Smith had picked his way up to the back 2nd and with an oversteering moment from the leader at Becketts first position changed and Mark Smith led going into the pit stop window.

With all the Modern Classics competitiors making their mandatory pit stop/driver change and the timing screens adjusting it would take a lap or two to settle. After all the stops were completed the top three were all three of the Amspeed run cars of James Moulton-Smith, David Marcussen and third place series returnee Dave Ball sharing with Tom Houlbrook. Ball’s third was still up for grabs and with the E36 M3 driven by Bryan Bransom and the Andrew Szymanski & Barry O’Neill BMW charging up to the battle after a lengthy pit stop, Dave Ball managed to resist both threats to finish third.

The final result saw an Amspeed 1,2,3 with the driver pairing of Mark Smith & James Moulton-Smith take the overall win just 5 seconds ahead of second placed David Marcussen and taking the final podium position Tom Houlbrook & Dave Ball.

Amspeed/Soper Success at Goodwood Revival

After receiving the last minute go ahead that the Le Mans Fifteen GT40 had been accepted into the ‘Whitsun Trophy’, Team Principal, Arran Moulton-Smith had to dash down to Sussex in the early hours of Friday morning to set the car up for qualifying.

Come Saturday’s race, Steve Soper made a magnificent display and managed to bring the car home with a comfortable lead ahead of all the other GT40’s. David Cuff said “We worked hard to improve on the car from last year and it has now paid off with lap times of 2 seconds a lap quicker.”

Amspeed would like to thank David Cuff, Gelsco and Steve Soper for all the hard work that has now translated into a very competitive car.

31 July 2014 Silverstone Classic Race Report

Silverstone Classic Race Report

After a successful weekend at Brands Hatch, the Amspeed team continued to work hard to prep the cars for the Event of the Year – The Silverstone Classic.

With testing on the Thursday the cars and trucks all needed to be in place by Wednesday night.  Young Harry Whale proved himself in qualifying on the Friday with a respectable time, comfortably ahead of the other cars in his class.

The Saturday race had Nick Whale in the same car but he was unfortunately side-swiped on the opening lap which bent the chassis.  Nevertheless, with Nick’s expertise, he managed to bring the car home but meant the Amspeed team were up until 1.30am with the welding equipment ready for Harry’s Sunday performance.

The main entertainment came from the second race of the weekend and was provided by the three E30s of Mark Smith, Harry Whale and Jason Minshaw (Demon Tweeks) via an epic 80’s style battle with the three drivers bumper to bumper until the last lap with Mark Smith finishing just ahead.

Now the Amspeed Team are back in the workshop with the cars being prepped for the Oulton Park Gold Cup 23/24th August (Bank Holiday).  In the meantime they will be out in the Porsche in the GT Cup, 16th / 17th August at Silverstone.

14 May 2013 Podiums Podiums Podiums

Podiums Podiums Podiums

The season has started well for the Amspeed Team, running various marques in multiple championships. Apart from the touring car trophy opener at Thruxton, we have already been successful in two rounds of modern classics with two old faithful E36 M3 BMWs, and two rounds of the GT Cup with the Porsche.

The first round of the Modern Classics at Snetterton 200 saw a comfortable second place and fastest lap in this mini endurance race, even with one driver still competing on his novice cross.

Moving onto Brands Hatch on Bank Holiday Monday 6th May 2013, this saw a third and fourth place for two of Amspeed’s E36 M3s. The first home was driven by David Marcussen, from Bath, with only a year’s experience in mini racing, he is now reaping the reward of Amspeed’s “setup” knowledge and professional race procedure.

Five days later we are back at Brands Hatch, this time on the Grand Prix circuit in the GT cup in a Porsche 997 GT3, and it podiums again!

The driver line up this time is the experienced Carrera Cup driver David Cuff, together with Mark Smith.

Saturday saw the pair collect a class win in torrential conditions in the 40 minute pit stop race, leaving Sundays two sprint races remaining. David Cuff took the first race and another class win, leaving Mark Smith to compete in the final race of the weekend and with the track left damp and greasy from the shower before the start Mark took another podium this time a third place.

At Amspeed we put the emphasis on good race preparation prior to the event to ensure reliability, therefore first of all making sure all of our cars finish the race. Coupled with our setup expertise and trackside knowledge, we are able to deliver the results.

If you’re driving your socks off and spending a fortune but still not getting the results you deserve, then you need to speak to us.

Should you require anything from full race support, race car building or even minor setup tweeks, please feel free to call our workshop for an informal chat
